St Cuthberts Cave (on Swinhoe Farm)

A most dramatic sandstone cave formed under an overhang of rocks. It is here that St. Cuthbert's body is said to have been taken by the monks of Lindisfarne Priory in 875 during their flight from the vikings. The cave is in St. Cuthbert's Cave Wood, a National Trust Property.
Situated approx. 2 miles from the holiday cottages.
